SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is targeting to achieve 60 per cent of registration for e-filling of assessment rates among the 53, 000 holdings under its jurisdiction.

Its chairman Clarence Ting said so far only 17,000 holdings had done so.

“It is not even up to 20 per cent registration of e-filling for the assessment rate which is rather disappointing.

“The e-filling should not be something new to us because SESCO now or even Sibu Water Board or the bank statements are send out by email,” he said when officiating at the SMC’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebration held at Farley stage in Jalan Salim here on last night.

In this connection, he hoped the public would support the e-filing so as to make SMC’s job a lot easier as well as the holding life easier by paying online.

This, he pointed out was also the way moving forward for Sibu to become a city.

Touching on rabies, Ting said the disease is currently raging in Sibu.

“Don’t let your dogs out because they may catch rabies and come back to bite you or your family members. And when you catch rabies, you are at risk with your life.

“I want to stress again that if you have a pet, not just dogs because rabies is not restricted to dogs but cats as well and to have them vaccinated and look after your pets,” he advised.

Earlier on in his address, Ting said SMC needed to organise a lot of events and hoped the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration would be carried out on a bigger scale next year.

“SMC has nothing to do with politics but bend to work with all the people regardless of race and religion. Whatever we do, we are out to serve the people,” he assured.
