SMK Tatau shine to win two gold medals

TATAU: SMK Tatau taekwondo team registered an impressive performance in the 31st Malaysian Youth Championship and 28th Penang Invitational to win two gold, two silver medal and one bronze medals recently.

In the championship, Hiew Chung Lung won the gold medal in the light heavy category and silver medal in the team sparring category for men’s under-18, as well as one gold medal in the 28th Penang Invitational Championship.

Harry Harwis Apong Anak Atong won a bronze in the light category and a silver medal in the 28th Penang Invitational championship.

Grace Wong Lyn Syn, the teacher who accompanied the squad, attributed the achievement of SMK Tatau team to the guidance of head coach, Master Kong Kah Zheng and full support of the school principal, Peter Use Lenjau.

“Taekwondo can foster team spirit among participants from various states in the country such as Kedah, Penang and Sabah who participated in the tournament,” he said.

Presently, SMK Tatau taekwondo club has a total of 105 members and training session is conducted at the school every Saturday under the guidance of Master Kong.

Grace Wong believed the team are capable of reaching greater successes in taekwondo championships in future.
