KUCHING: The standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) secretariat has been adhered to by all korban ritual organising committees.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the korban rituals conducted this year went smoothly despite the low number of workers.

Alhamdulillah, the korban ritual organising committee had complied with the SOPs that has been set,” he said.

He said this when met after attending the Pantai Damai constituency ‘Ibadah Qurban’ programme here yesterday.

The programme was jointly organied by PBB Kampung Boyan branch, PBB Pantai Damai branch, Surau Raudzatussalihin, Kampung Boyan Saberkas Unit, and JKKK Kampung Boyan.

Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), explained that the korban rituals carried out during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) had several differences compared to previous celebrations.

According to him, the differences include the establishment of the organising committees, the issuance of directives that sacrificial worship can only be performed in mosques or suraus, compulsory registration with the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (Jais), and all cows must be registered with the Sarawak Veterinary Department.

“This is a few of the SOPs introduced as an effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

He added that the organising committee should also ensure that social distance is practised and the number of korban ritual workers are met with.

Also present were Kampung Boyan community leader Abdul Hamid Ahmad and Kampung Boyan PBB branch chief Yazit Junaidi.
