Special Olympics Got Talent and Family Day draws 380 entries

KUCHING: The Special Olympics (SO) Got Talent and Family Day, held at Yayasan Sarawak on Saturday (Nov 18), attracted 380 entries.

Organised by SO Kuching Chapter, the event aimed to celebrate the remarkable achievements of athletes with intellectual disabilities and fostering an inclusive community.

Its president Datin Dayang Mariani Abang Zain said the event is a way to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and promote inclusion for people of all abilities.

“We are incredibly proud of our participants, whose dedication and passion inspire us all.

“Parents are slowly taking their children out, they now realise that they are special, with their special talents. We, in SO, are trying to promote inclusivity among the specials and others out there,” she said.

The chapter also thanked the volunteers, sponsors and community partners who played a crucial role in making these events a resounding success.

Volunteers included members of Badan Budaya Unimas, and Trefoil Guild Girl Guide (TGGG) members Sarawak branch.

There were several competitions including singing, dancing and drawing.

In the singing category, Vincent Tan Yi Xiong from SMK Demak Baru secured the top position, followed by Muhammad Muzaffar Abdullah from SMK Kota Samarahan in second spot and Willhelmus Dawel William from SMK Muara Tuang in third position.

For the instrumental solo category, Gabriel Christopher Leoneil playing the Sape from SMK Muara Tuang claimed the crown. Rockinson Joneng on the guitar from PPDK Mambong took second spot, while Diana Atot on the guitar from PPDK Sinar Harapan Kpg Duyuh secured third position.

In the dancing category, the top spot went to Tarian Capan group from SMK Kota Samarahan. Tarian Joget Melayu group from SMK Muara Tuang took second position, and Joget Berhibur group from SMK Tabuan Jaya came in third.

The drawing category was divided into two sections: Pendidikan Khas Integrasi (PPKI) and Program Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK).

In the PPKI category, Freddy Un Wei Shen from SMK Tabuan Jaya emerged champion. Joshua Ortega Martin from SMK Muara Tuang was second, and Mohd Farish Jamadzil Shahrilnizam from SK Matu Baru, third.

In the PDK category, Elice Towsern Joni from PPDK Sinar Harapan Kpg Duyoh clinched the championship. Rovina Sedi from PPDK Sinar Harapan Kpg Duyoh secured second position, and Mohd Waiz Hafizin from PPDK Petra Jaya was third.
