KUCHING: Sarawak Youth Stay At Home Esports Challenge is back again with the second series via online, specifically for youth aged 15 to 40.

The state Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with Sarawak ESports Association (SESA) will organise it following overwhelming response to the first series in which 656 youth participated.

The pooled prize money of RM16,600 is an initiative of the ministry to help young people overcome current difficulties and challenges. The champion will receive RM3,000.

Among the categories in the contest are Mobile Legend Bang Bang (MLBB) and PUBG Mobile Squad from Mobile Gaming platform. The target for both categories is to get 700 participants.

Participants are encouraged to have their own internet connection such as WiFi/Unifi or their own Mobile Data at home. Any participant that violates the government’s “stay at home” rule and other rules will be disqualified.

A press statement issued yesterday said the objective of the programme was to get youth at home to fill their leisure time.

“It can help promote e-sports development at the grassroots level and turn it into a more competitive training platform.

“The competition will also help promote confidence and competitiveness among new players as well as encourage them to participate in future tournaments,” the statement said.

The event will also feature a new learning element called Esports Webinar to be held on April 22. The seminar or workshop is on the development of Esports in Sarawak and how Esports contribute to the knowledge of digital technologies.

Through this Webinar, viewers, especially youth, can interact directly with moderators and panellists.

The launch date is April 18 and 19 for Mobile Legend Bang Bang and April 20 and 21 for PUBG Mobile (Squad).

The registration forms can be found on Google Form link that will be provided and registration deadline for both categories is April 17.
