KUCHING: Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip has called for restraint to making comments on the homosexual act allegedly involving Haziq Aziz, a principal private secretary to a PH deputy minister and a senior PKR minister in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) cabinet.

“The authenticity of the video and identity of the senior minister is yet to be established although the PKR operative has made a confession that he is the individual in the video”, said Talib when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

“The less said about this issue of sodomy at the moment, the easier it is for MACC and other authorities to do the investigation,” he stressed.

Talib said when there is too much gutter politics, it is not conducive to a decent and ethical political culture.

“We do need to have more decent and ethical political culture in this country, frankly speaking”, he added.

“With respect to the corruption accusations against Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, there are quite a number of such postings in the social media.

“One need not believe that corruption has been committed to let the investigation to begin. Investigation is to establish the fact or truth. If the investigation is seen in this light, then we welcome such investigation,” he stressed.

“We trust the right authorities would do this. However, if the investigation is selective and only applies to certain parties, then the credibility of the exercise is questionable. Let us hope this is not the case,” Talib remarked.

Talib also mentioned that several people have raised the issue of sodomy under the watch of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Earlier on it was Anwar, a very close follower and potential successor, jailed and ousted by Tun Dr Mahathir and now it’s Azmin Ali,” he said.

Talib said because the most sensitive personal information is available to the sitting Prime Minister, people question why he appointed them as potential successors in the first place.

In this case the choice of potential successor is extra sensitive, as Azmin would precede Tun’s own son Mukhriz as the eighth Prime Minister. So, people perceive the removal of Azmin is a way to push Mukhriz forward. Then the intrigue theory thickens,” he said.
