Two robbers arrested in Bintulu, remanded for four days

MUKAH: The two men arrested in Bintulu after robbing a woman with weapons in Balingian are being remanded for four days until April 20 to facilitate investigations.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery using dangerous weapons.

The suspects, aged 30 and 33, had three prior records related to drugs and other crimes.

He added that police are actively pursuing leads to locate the third suspect, who is still at large.

“The robbery, involving a 28-year-old woman, happened around 10.30pm on April 10 when she was driving her car along Jalan Bukut in Mukah.

“Another car driven by three men stopped the victim in her lane abruptly. Two masked men armed with machetes exited the car and instructed her to hand over her handbag.

“After taking the victim’s handbag containing bank cards and cash, the suspects fled the scene,” DSP Rizal said.

On Tuesday (April 16), the Mukah and Bintulu Criminal Investigation Division (CIDs) managed to arrest two of the suspects at a budget hotel in Pasar Lama, Bintulu.

DSP Rizal stated that during the raid, the suspects escaped their hotel room by jumping out of the window and onto the roof.

“Minimal force had to be used to arrest the suspects.

“Also seized from them are two machetes, a machete sheath and a bag of clothes.”
