KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) yesterday welcomed 660 new pre-university students for the 2019/2020 session in conjunction with the Student Welcoming Week.

Held from June 14 to 17, the swearing in ceremony was officiated by Unimas vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.

Unimas offers three pre-university programmes, namely Foundation in Life Sciences, Foundation in Physical Sciences as well as International Foundation in Science (IFS).

Both the Foundation in Life Sciences and Foundation in Physical Sciences Programmes have been awarded full accreditation by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).

On the other hand, IFS is a new programme which is open to Malaysian and international students.

Students will study for these three programmes for two semesters in preparation for their undergraduate studies in bachelor’s programmes in the science-based faculties of the university.

The test-oriented courses expose the students to leadership, entrepreneurship and community values.

Unimas has produced highly competitive undergraduate students. In 2018, Franklin Lingga Abun, an undergraduate of the Faculty of Engineering, was offered a ten-year contract (2021-2031) as an automotive technology expert for BMW Group in Austria.
