Water supply: Singapore looking at the Sarawak experience

KUCHING: Singapore’s National Water Agency (PUB) looking towards Sarawak for its expertise in the water supply sector and hopes to establish cooperation with the state government future on the matter.

Utilities and Telecommunications (MUT) Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said PUB conveyed its intention to his ministry during a recent meeting in Marina Barrage, Singapore.

Julaihi and his delegation members were briefed by director of Industry and Technology Collaboration Michael Toh on the development of the water supply sector and the technology that Singapore is using.

In line with this, he also expressed his support for the efforts of the Malaysia Water Association (MWA) to make the city of Kuching the host of the International Water Congress 2028 organised by the International Water Association (IWA) which is currently in the final stage of selection between Kuching (Malaysia) and Sao Paulo (Brazil) as the host.

During the recent two-day work visit to Singapore, MUT’s delegation also paid a courtesy call Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) Singapore officials where discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and efforts in supplying electricity from Sarawak to Singapore.
