KUCHING: Youths have been urged to organise more charity programmes that are beneficial to the rakyat.

In making this call, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said this will help develop youths to be more knowledgeable, capable and responsible individuals.

In this instance he said the most important thing for Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is to be able to serve the rakyat well.

“We must be on the ground to help and identify people’s problems,” he told reporters after handing over donations to Home of Peace at Jalan Landeh here, Sunday (March 26).

Organised by SUPP’s 3rd Mile Sub Branch Youth Service Team, among the items donated are LED T8 tube, LED single tube case, shower heater, fresh chicken, fish and vegetables and adult diapers.

He commended the youth section for playing their role in giving back to the community.

In terms of the number of youths members in SUPP Batu Kitang branch, he said the branch has about 3,000 members with youths accounting for about 50 per cent of membership over the years.

Lo, who is also Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Batu Kitang chairman, said he is pleased that there’s a strong group of youths within the movement.

“Since two years ago, we noticed small changes as it used to be just Bumiputeras. Now it is very encouraging to see Chinese youths joining this movement as well,” he said.
