SARATOK: Yesterday, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri received 146 membership application forms to join Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the main backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) which is leading Sarawak.

Mohamad expressed his joy when receiving the membership application forms from the residents of two longhouses and their surrounding areas.

He said the increasing PBB membership over time showed the party was becoming stronger and remained relevant in developing Sarawak.

“Thanks to Tuai Rumah Ikom and Tuai Rumah Embol as well as their community members for showing their strong support for the government by applying to join the PBB Kalaka branch.

“This is what is expected of all of us under one roof…we unite for Sarawak… to progress and prosper together,” he said.

Mohamad made these remarks when asked after the Ngabang Christmas 2023 and Happy New Year 2024 event at the Senyawan Longhouse yesterday.

He was optimistic many more community members from other areas would follow suit.

“PBB and I warmly welcome it. It’s like joining hands, extending a helping hand.

“I believe the people of Saratok in general and Kalaka constituency in particular can already assess. Joining PBB is good for their well-being and harmony in the future.

“Even now, under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also the PBB president, we can say that we are far better in annual development spending compared to other states.

“For the Kalaka constituency, my commitment is to increase infrastructure projects in longhouses, villages, and so on.

“They will be implemented through the development plans that have been and will be planned by the GPS government, which places a strong emphasis on the needs of the people at all levels,” he said.

Earlier, Tuai Rumah Ikom stated that rural communities must acknowledge the reality of development brought by the Sarawak government led by GPS.

“Now is not the time to risk the future.

“If we do not support PBB and GPS, we will be left behind. This is because their leaders prioritise the people.

“In the Kalaka constituency alone, we have witnessed various plans and enjoyed many developments. Therefore, we should support PBB,” he said.

During the event, the PBB membership forms were handed over by Tuai Rumah Ikom and Tuai Rumah Embol to Mohamad, witnessed by exco of Sarawak Youth Movement Councillor Kasdi Pandi, who is also the deputy chairman of PBB Kalaka branch and the secretary of PBB Kalaka branch, Gapor Ahmad.
