BINTULU: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) 2023 Northern Zone Special Convention, set to be held here today is expected to attract over 2,300 delegates from the party’s 19 branches in the northern zone.
Although the convention is taking place ahead of the original schedule, all preparations have proceeded as planned including a successful full rehearsal at the Bintulu Civic Centre yesterday.
The event’s preparations were inspected by Deputy Premier and PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, who is also the organising chairman of the convention.
The convention, themed ‘PBB Teras Kestabilan, Kemajuan dan Kemakmuran Sarawak’, aims to enlighten its members about the new policy and the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 introduced by the Sarawak government.
Awang Tengah expressed satisfaction with the overall preparations for the convention, despite some changes in plans.
“This convention for the northern region was originally set to take place in Miri sometime in November. However, given that the Jepak state by-election is being held in Bintulu, we felt it was more appropriate to relocate the convention from Miri to Bintulu,” he said.
The one-day convention will begin as early as 7.30 am, starting with delegate registration. The agenda also includes an informative session on the new economic policy and PCDS 2030, presented by Deputy Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel at 8.30 am.
At 9.30 am, a resolution presentation session will be led by PBB senior vice president Datuk Seri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, followed by a debate on the resolution.
The event’s highlight will be at 2 pm, featuring Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who will officially open the convention and deliver his address.
This special convention is organised in four zones: the Kuching Zone took place on September 23, the Betong Zone on October 8, and after this, the convention will be held in Sibu.
