14 fined RM1k each for SOP non-compliance

KUCHING: Fourteen individuals throughout the state were compounded RM1,000 each on Wednesday (Aug 19) for failing to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in public places.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said police will continue to strictly enforce the SOPs, including the use of face masks and social distancing in public places.

“Kota Samarahan was tops with eight compounds issued, followed by Kuching with three compounds. One compound each were issued to SOP violators in Padawan, Sarikei and Betong,” the statement read.

On SOP compliance monitoring, police patrol teams inspected 1,652 premises throughout Sarawak.

They are restaurants (301), supermarkets (194), banks (139), public markets (79), places of worship (78), government offices (70), hawker stalls (53), leisure places (35), construction sites (19), factories (12) and others (672).

The committee said 1,148 vehicles were inspected in six Ops Benteng roadblocks in five districts — Lundu (two) and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman and Lubok Antu.
