KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new imported Covid-19 case in Lawas, bringing the total number of positive cases thus far to 1,068.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Case 1,068 is a local man, who had just returned from Sabah — a Covid-19 high risk area.

It was told that the case worked as a scaffolding inspector at a construction site in Kota Kinabalu before being laid off in October.

“The case returned to Sarawak through Merapk Immigration and Customs Quarantine Complex (ICQS) on Nov 28 using a private vehicle with two other friends and was later admitted to a quarantine centre for a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

“The case underwent screening on Nov 30 and was found positive last Thursday.

The case began experiencing symptoms and shows signs of infection on Nov 11 while in Sabah.

“The case had been referred and admitted to Miri Hospital for further treatment and contact tracing is now in full swing,” the committee said.

On the existing clusters in the state, SDMC announced that two clusters namely Baki Cluster and Seladah Cluster, have ended after receiving no new positive cases in the last 28 days.

As of today, there are only four active clusters in Sarawak, namely the Besi Cluster, Jalan Abell Cluster, Green Hill Cluster, and Wisma Saberkas Cluster — all of which are in Kuching.

SDMC said one new case had recovered and been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), bringing the cumulative tally of recovered and discharged cases to 1,034 or 96.82 percent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

They said that there were 15 people undergoing treatment in hospital isolation wards — nine in SGH, four in Miri Hospital, and two in Sibu Hospital.

“Five new persons-under-investigation (PUI) were reported while one PUI is still awaiting laboratory results,” said the committee.
