THE relevant agencies have been urged to speed up the retaining wall repair work at Empayang.

Mohd Chee Kadir (GPS-Kabong) noted that the retaining wall had been broken for over a year but until now it had not been fully repaired.

“To this day, the retaining wall is still in the process of being repaired.

“Although there are efforts by related agencies, the damage suffered by the farmers in the area is huge, where many of their crops are destroyed due to the entry of sea water into their gardens.”

He said this in his debate speech on Supply Bill (2023) and Motion to Refer to the Development Budget Resolution for 2023 on yesterday (Nov 24).

Mohd Chee noted that the delay in repairing the retaining wall was because of bureaucracy.

“Therefore, I request that in such a situation, fast tracking method should be used to minimise the losses experienced by the growers.”

He also pointed out that several locations along Sungai Seblak experienced the same issue as well as erosion due to the tide.

“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed to implement a diversion channel to solve these problems.

“Hence, I hope that the agency responsible implement ‘channel diversion’ at an immediate rate and not delay any longer as this morning, I received news that there was another tire burst incident in the Empayang area.”
