KUCHING: A female student of SMK Sungai Tapang who was reported missing while hiking with 72 other students and 10 teachers on Mount Santubong near here on Tuesday morning was found safe by the search and rescue team at around 10.00pm on the same day.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, the 16-year-old girl was found safe but in a weaken state by the rescuers at level 7.

He said the victim was brought to safety and given treatment before she was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment via an EMRS vehicle.

It was reported that a search and rescue team, comprising 28 firefighters, five police personnel,  four APM members and villagers, was deployed to the location to look for the girl after receiving a distress call at 6.20pm.

Meanwhile, five people including a teenager were arrested by police for allegedly possessing drugs on Tuesday.

The suspects, aged between 15 and 41, were picked up by the police at a house in Semariang at around 1.00pm following a tip-off from the public.

Besides the arrests, police also seized a packet of drugs, believed to be syabu, weighing about 0.38 grammes.

The suspects were taken to a police station for further investigation. They were also tested positive for drugs.

Police are investigating the case under Section 12 (2) and 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
