Tiong welcomes the arrival of the passengers of the inaugural flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Kuala Lumpur.

KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has welcomed the inaugural flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Kuala Lumpur today, marking a historic moment in air connectivity between Malaysia and India.

He said the new route would be able to further strengthen ties between South India and Malaysia; a significant development for bilateral relations and tourism between both countries.

“Notably, this marks the second direct route to Kerala, following Kochi, promising increased tourism opportunities and fostering cultural exchange between the two nations,” he said.

He said this when welcoming the arrival of the passengers of the inaugural flight at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 today.

He also applauded AirAsia for their continuous efforts in expanding air connectivity between the two nations, enabling more travellers to visit our beautiful country.

“With the recent waiver of visa in addition to the introduction of this new route, we anticipate a significant boost in tourism traffic and a surge in visitors arrival from India to our country,” he added.

Tiong said the new route, travelling from Trivandrum, India is scheduled four times weekly, which only takes 4 hours 10 minutes.

The flight departs from Trivandrum every Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday to Kuala Lumpur.
