KUCHING: Pay&Go Sdn Bhd, a local tech company, and ChargeSINI, Malaysia’s leading smart Electric Vehicle (EV) charging provider, have signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to collaborate on enhancing the impact of EV charging infrastructure in the community.
The MoA signing ceremony on Thursday (May 18) was witnessed by Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
“The partnership between Pay&Go and ChargeSINI is in line with the government’s strategic framework for the development and planning of EV infrastructure in Malaysia,” said Tiang.
“The government aims to establish 10,000 charging stations for electric vehicles by 2025 as part of the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030.”
Tiang highlighted that the government was currently evaluating the procedures for approving EV charging systems to streamline the installation approval process.
He also mentioned plans to equip residential areas in Sarawak, such as housing estates and condominiums, with EV charging stations to improve convenience for electric vehicle drivers in the city.
Tiang believed that developing the necessary infrastructure to encourage the adoption of electromobility among motorists in Sarawak was a collaborative effort involving various agencies and stakeholders in the industry.
Meanwhile, Pay&Go CEO Eddie Wee shared that since their launch in June 2020, they had processed over eight million car park payment transactions, generating a profit of RM25mil.
“As of May 2023, we have secured approximately 70 smart car park orders in Sarawak and 30 car parks in West Malaysia.
“By the end of 2023, we plan to expand our services to Indonesia and target at least 500 smart car parks across different locations within the next three years.”
Wee also mentioned that Pay&Go would be launching additional lifestyle conveniences through their app, including e-booking for cafes, restaurants, hotels, air tickets, and e-remittance.
The signing event was also attended by ChargeSINI EV CEO James Goh, Sarawak Energy Business Development Department senior manager Victor Ranyis, and Asean China Entrepreneurs Association vice-president Michael Liong.
