KUALA LUMPUR: The Perodua Myvi was proclaimed the winner in the Entry-Level Segment at the 2018 Malaysia Car of the Year Awards ceremony, held at the Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday night.

Organised by the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), the event was attended by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Ignatius Darell Leiking and MAI CEO Dato’ Madani Sahari.

“Since its launch in November 2017, nearly 85,000 units of the third-generation Perodua Myvi have been sold in Malaysia, out of over 138,000 bookings to date,” said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh, who went up on stage to receive Perodua’s award.

“We thank all Malaysians for your steadfast and overwhelming support for our Myvi. We are glad and humbled that we succeeded in offering Malaysians a car that you truly want and love, and will take this as motivation for us to serve you even better,” Datuk (Dr) Aminar added.

The popularity of the Myvi was evident at the just-concluded 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS18), where the sporty Myvi GT styling exercise drew an abundance of public attention.

“The buzz surrounding the Myvi GT was a pleasant surprise for us. So if you missed seeing it at KLIMS18, we’re giving you another chance to catch it at the inaugural International Automodified Kuala Lumpur (IAMKL) show at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre this weekend, December 8-9 ,” said Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd managing director Dato’ Dr Zahari Husin.

Last year’s iteration of the awards saw the Perodua Bezza and Perodua Myvi win in the Below-RM50,000 and RM50,001-RM60,000 categories respectively, while Dato’ Dr Zahari Husin was crowned Automotive Man of the Year.

At the 2016 Malaysia Car of the Year Awards, the then-new Perodua Bezza won in the Entry-Level, People’s Choice and Most Significant Design Achievement categories.
