Plants in Bintulu set to make Sarawak main producer of green hydrogen energy

KUALA LUMPUR: Two hydrogen plants in Kidurong Industrial Zone, Bintulu are expected to be fully completed by 2027.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the development of the hydrogen plants are through collaboration with companies from South Korea and Japan.

“Once the plant is completed, it will make Sarawak the main producer of green hydrogen energy in the region.

“These two hydrogen plants through the cooperation of South Korean and Japanese companies are expected to be fully completed by 2027,” he said.

He said this in a press conference after representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the launching ceremony of the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition here on Wednesday (July 12).

Meanwhile, Dr Hazland said there are many companies from abroad who want to share expertise and technology in the development of green hydrogen.

In fact, he said, approximately 1,000 job opportunities will be opened to the people of Sarawak after the two hydrogen plants starts to operational later.
