KUCHING: Sepak Takraw Association Samarahan Division will receive an allocation of RM25,000 for its activities from Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang.

Rubiah announced the allocation when officiating at the Datuk Rubiah Wang/Kota Samarahan Third Edition Sepak Takraw Cup tournament at the Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium last Saturday (Feb 20).

In her speech, she noted that the tournament received encouraging response from participants in Sarawak and Malaya.

“The Sepak Takraw Challenge can be used as a platform to unearth hidden talent among the participants,” she said.

She said the tournament could be a platform to pick players for SUKMA or international meets like the Commonwealth Games, Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and the Olympics.

“In Samarahan, we also have athletes who have made the country famous such as Syaiful of Kampung Tanjong Apong in Asajaya who competed in swimming and represented Malaysia at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo last year,” she said.

A total of 32 teams competed in the tournament organised by Sepak Takraw Association Samarahan Division in collaboration with Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and Tourism Task Group Samarahan Division.
