MIRI: Within two hours, 80 ploggers collected 94kg of trash at Luak Esplanade beach last Saturday (July 2).

The programme which kicked off at 8am was an initiative of the 5S Committee of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri and the Sustainable Development Unit of Miri City Council (MCC), and was participated by SM Sains Miri and SMK Agama Miri.

It was organised in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to increase awareness and create a clean and safe beach environment for the community and visitors.

The ploggers comprised Negeri Sarawak, Miri staff, their family members, teachers, students and volunteers.

Also present were Ahmad Samsudin, a representative of Pustaka Miri regional manager and Norasidah Hassan, who represented MCC’s head of Sustainable Development Unit.

(Wikipedia describes plogging as a combination of jogging and litter picking. It started as an activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution.)
