KUCHING: Visually challenged operators of massage and reflexology centres here feel relieved as they are allowed to re-open starting this Monday (Dec 21).
Owner of TN Massage Centre Tazlan Jen said he was looking forward to it and would ensure that the centre would fully comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities.
“The pandemic has really impacted the business. Since the movement control order (MCO) was enforced in March, there has been no income until we were allowed to reopen in July,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when met at the fourth blood donation campaign co-organised by the state Health Department, Malaysian Red Crescent Kuching district, and Tay Motors at MBKS Community Hall, Padungan today.
He recalled that there was another directive which instructed them to close at the end of October until this month.
The father of three said before the pandemic, he had four to five customers a day, but the pandemic reduced the number to one and sometimes no customer at all.
“We understand that many customers might be afraid to go for a massage due to the present situation,” he said.
“We urge the public to call us first before coming so that we can sanitise the place before and after each session,” he said.
Tazland, 53, was blind after he suffered nerve damage at the age of 25, while his wife, Nur Atirah Voon Abdullah, 33, had glaucoma at the age of 11.
The couple has been operating the centre on Floor 2, Block DF 313 at Jalan Batu Kawah for 12 years now. Both of them run the place while providing massage and reflexology services.
